The Scent Work Club of the San Gabriel Foothills was established in 2018. The dedicated members have a variety of experiences and a wealth of knowledge in the world of Scent Work.

In 2019, SWCSGF began hosting AKC Scent Work Trials, as well as other related activities, in the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding areas.

We strive to offer the best run trials to give you and your dog(s) a memorable experience each time you participate. The ingredients to our success include a well-trained and organized team that: finds interesting and novel locations; employs excellent judges; and has volunteers that provide timely and smooth runs.

What is AKC Scent Work?

The American Kennel Club (AKC) sport of Scent Work is based on the work of professional detection dogs (such as drug dogs), employed by humans to detect a wide variety of scents and substances. In AKC Scent Work, dogs search for cotton swabs that have drops of Birch, Anise, Clove and Cypress essential oils. The cotton swabs are hidden out of sight in a pre-determined search area, and the dog has to find them. Teamwork is necessary: when the dog finds the scent, he has to communicate the find to the handler, who calls it out to the judge.
